A Little Bit About Me…

I have always been a sporty girl. I started karate when I was 6, then played handball until I was 18. After that, I came up with a ton of excuses for why I didn’t work out. You know the usual: no time, needed to focus on uni, worked too many hours, was too tired… and after I had children, I felt I had to focus on them—not me. Excuse after excuse.

I experienced postnatal depression and possibly PTSD after the very traumatic birth of my first child. I was suicidal. I had to see a psychiatrist before my second daughter was born, and I didn’t really recover until I started working out… 10 years after I first got pregnant! I went from a size 10 to a size 20. I hated who I was and didn’t find much joy in anything around me. I had some difficult relationships too, which just added to my depression. I didn’t care about what I was eating—stuffing my face with unhealthy food became my ‘joy.’

One day, I decided enough was enough. I always envied the life of women who went to the gym. That’s when I realised—it was up to me to create the life I wanted to live. So, I bought a gym membership, and since that day, I’ve worked out 4–5 days every week, consistently.

My first day at the gym wasn’t pleasant. I felt judged and uncomfortable, but I knew I had to push through that feeling if I wanted to achieve my goals. So the next day, I went back. And I did the same the day after that. And after that. The more I went, the better I felt about myself.

At first, I had no idea what I was doing. Like every newbie, I ‘hid’ on the cardio and resistance machines and just copied what everyone else was doing. I had no knowledge of which exercise built which muscles, or the importance of following a structured program. That’s when I decided to seek professional help—and got myself a personal trainer. He helped explain how to do the exercises correctly, how and why to follow a program, and gave me advice on my nutrition and how to work towards my goals.

I fell in love with working out! I got stronger, my body composition started to change, I was happier, had more energy, and I stopped caring what others thought. I started wearing the clothes I had always wanted but was too anxious to wear… yeah, I’m talking about those skin-tight gym leggings and sports bras—without a huge cover-up t-shirt!

In 2022, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had to have surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy. During this time, I still went to the gym as often as I could because it helped me mentally. Hormone therapy has since induced menopause for me. I really struggle with the symptoms—especially joint stiffness and muscle pain—and I find it infuriating that there isn’t more information out there about it. So I’m constantly learning and finding ways to help myself and my clients who are going through the same.

I know how hard it can be to go to the gym (physically and mentally) and to work out when you aren’t feeling your best—but for me, the alternative was always worse.

I want to help you achieve your goals, whatever they are. I understand how hard and intimidating it can be to start something new, especially when you don’t know where to look for support and information. I also know what it means to work hard and push yourself to—and beyond—your limits.
